Contacting the Doctor outside normal hours

A doctor is always on call to deal with emergencies when the surgery is closed. Call 08448 112344 and you will be diverted, free of charge, to the duty doctor. During the night your call may sometimes be taken by a deputising service doctor.

Home visits

doctor's bag (Gladstone)

Home visits are at the discretion of the doctor. Please do not ask the doctor to call unless the patient is genuinely too ill to come to the surgery, as home visits are very time consuming and we can see at least four patients in the surgery in the time it takes to see one at home.

If the condition of the patient is such that a home visit is required, please ring the surgery before 9.30am (except in an emergency) so that the doctor can plan his visits. Please be prepared to give full details of the patient's name, address, age and condition to our practice nurses as this will help the doctor to decide which calls are more urgent.

Please try and come to the surgery if at all possible, as this saves the doctor's travelling time and makes more time available for consultations. If a patient has a high temperature or a rash, coming to the surgery will do no harm and will not endanger others. However, in this case please inform the receptionist on arrival, so that the patient may go directly into a separate examination room.
