Antenatal and Postnatal Clinics

The Antenatal and Postnatal clinics are held weekly on Mondays from 1:30 - 3:00pm. The community midwife is available at this session working alongside the doctors. We provide 'shared care' with the local maternity hospitals.

Get ready ...

You can maximise your chances of having a healthy pregnancy and labour if you're fit and healthy to begin with.

I'm pregnant!

ultrasound scan on pregnant woman

Your pregnancy needs to be confirmed by your doctor who will arrange an initial 'booking' appointment. You'll be asked a number of questions – about your health, your family history and about any previous pregnancies. The aim is to get a good basic idea of your health and your pregnancy so far. The doctor will arrange for referral to the hospital where necessary.

Take a look at the Pregnancy Calendar [BBC] for week-by-week details on your baby's growth.

How often will I be seen?

Not counting appointments for scans, you can probably expect to have an appointment every four weeks after 12 weeks, and then every two weeks from about 32 weeks, and for the last three or four weeks to have weekly appointments. This is variable, though – ask your midwife what the likely schedule is for you.

Scans and testing

During the course of pregnancy patients will be referred for ultrasound scans and be offered blood 'screening' tests for particular foetal abnormalities.
