What is hypertension?
Hypertension is the term used to describe high blood pressure. The British Hypertension Society defines raised blood pressure as above the reading of 160/90.
High blood pressure is a major risk factor for strokes and heart attacks and affects approximately 15% of the UK adult population. It is treatable and studies have shown that, if treated, the incidence of heart attacks and strokes are reduced.
If you do have a raised BP, the nurses will monitor and perform regular checks on patients.
